Japan's core consumer prices fell 0.5 percent in September from a year earlier, marking the seventh straight month of declines, the government said Friday.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the core consumer price index, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, stood at 99.6 against the 2015 base of 100.

The drop in the core consumer price index was in line with median forecasts for a 0.5 percent decline.

Separate data also showed that household spending declined 2.1 percent in September from a year earlier, while the jobless rate dropped to 3.0 percent.
